Elon Musk Not Joining Twitter Board; 'Tune Out Noises, Stay Focussed,' Says CEO Parag Agrawal
Elon is our biggest shareholder and we will remain open to his input, Parag Agrawal said on the day

Tesla CEO Elon Musk is not joining the board of Twitter, the microblogging site’s chief executive officer Parag Agrawal confirmed on Monday, April 11. The billionaire had recently bought 9.2 per cent stake in Twitter, and later it was announced that he will join the board of the platform. Elon Musk was to join Twitter’s board on April 9, but on the same morning he sad he will not be able to do so, Agrawal confirmed in a statement issued on the microblogging site.

Parag Agrawal’s Statement

“The board and I had many discussions about Elon joining the board, and with Elon directly. We were excited to collaborate and clear about the risks. We also believed that having Elon as a fiduciary of the company where he, like all board members, has to act in the best interest of the company and all our shareholders, was the best path forward. The board offered him a seat,” Agrawal said in a tweet.

“We announced on Tuesday that Elon would be appointed to the Board contingent on a background check and formal acceptance. Elon’s appointment to the board was to become officially effective 4/9, but Elon shared that same morning that he will no longer be joining the board. I believe this is for the best. We have and will always value input from our shareholders whether they are on our Board or not. Elon is our biggest shareholder and we will remain open to his input,” he said.

“There will be distractions ahead, but our goals and priorities remain unchanged. The decisions we make and how we execute is in our hands, no one else’s. Let’s tune out the noise, and stay focused on the work and what we’re building,” Agrawal added in his post.

Elon Musk & Visions for Twitter

Musk had, after buying stake and joining Twitter board, suggested a slew of changes for the site. For one, the Tesla boss wanted to make the company’s headquarters a shelter for the homeless, as no one shows up (to work) anyway”. He had in a poll asked opinions from users, to which over 91 per cent voted ‘yes’. In another tweet, he proposed adding an ‘edit’ button to let users change their Twitter posts after they had been published. In another poll, he asked if he should remove the ‘w’ in Twitter and change its name, in a joke with his followers. Musk also expressed concerns that the most followed accounts on the platform were inactive, and asked if Twitter was ‘dying’. He also said that everyone who signs up for Twitter’s paid service Twitter Blue should get an authentication checkmark.
