In recent years, car prices have surged, driven by various factors like semiconductor shortages, higher input costs, and stringent government regulations.
Despite these challenges, the pursuit of affordable wheels remains strong.
For those with a budget capped at Rs 6 lakh on the road (OTR), the market offers limited options. Popular choices such as the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10, Maruti S-Presso, and Renault Kwid aim to provide an enjoyable driving experience without breaking the bank.
Maruti Suzuki Alto K10
Maruti Suzuki continues to manufacture the most affordable cars in India. With the Alto 800 discontinued, the Alto K10 takes its place as the carmaker’s entry-level product.
Priced between Rs 3.99 lakh and Rs 5.96 lakh (ex-showroom), the Alto K10 offers a range of variants. Equipped with a 1.0-litre K10C petrol engine, it delivers 67PS and 89Nm, available with both 5-speed MT and 5-speed AMT options. While the top-spec variant may exceed Rs 6 lakh (OTR), lower and mid-spec variants are viable choices for budget-conscious buyers.
Maruti Suzuki S-Presso
The S-Presso, another affordable option from Maruti, shares powertrains with the Alto K10.
Priced between Rs 4.26 lakh and Rs 6.11 lakh (ex-showroom), the S-Presso offers a range of variants suitable for different budgets. While the top-spec variants may surpass Rs 6 lakh (OTR), lower and mid-spec variants make it an attractive option for budget buyers.
Renault Kwid
Renault’s most affordable offering in India, the Kwid, is priced between Rs 4.69 lakh and Rs 6.44 lakh (ex-showroom).
Powered by a 1.0-litre petrol engine producing 68PS and 91Nm, the Kwid offers variants with 5-speed MT or 5-speed AMT. With a budget of Rs 6 lakh (OTR), buyers can explore lower and mid-spec variants of this entry-level hatchback.
However, the earlier 0.8-litre option is no longer available.
In the midst of rising car prices, these options from Maruti, Renault, and more prove that affordable and enjoyable rides are still within reach.
