A man from Gujarat’s Dholka accused three men of abducting him and his friend for ransom on the pretext of buying tickets for Saturday’s India vs Pakistan Cricket World Cup Match from them.
According to a Times of India report, the victim, Vivek Vala, who is a BA final year student volunteers for the digital ticket booking platform ‘Book My Show.’
In his FIR, Vala stated that he was on duty scanning tickets at Gate 2 of the Narendra Modi Stadium on October 5 with his friend Harsh Barot when another BMS employee, identified as Nilesh, told Vala that he had tickets for the India-Pakistan match and could give some to Vala to sell at an inflated price.
Soon after, another man named Unmesh Amin approached Vala for tickets. Based on Nilesh’s promise Vala committed the tickets to Amin, TOI reported.
Amin demanded 66 tickets from Vala and his friend Barot, which they were supposed to get from Nilesh’s brother at the Isckon Circle.
However, when Vala and Barot were waiting for Nilesh’s brother to come with the tickets, Amin arrived with three other people at the spot and forced the two into a car from where they were allegedly taken near Vastrapur railway crossing.
Amin and his aides asked Vala and Barot to pay a ransom of Rs 2.50 lakh each but since they did not have the money on them, the accused took away Vala’s debit card and used it to withdraw Rs 24,000.
A case of kidnapping, wrongful confinement, extortion, abetment and criminal intimidation has been filed by the Gujarat police against the three.
Earlier, Ahmedabad police arrested four people for allegedly printing and selling 50 fake tickets of the upcoming India vs Pakistan Cricket World Cup match to people at Rs 3 lakh.
The India vs Pakistan Cricket World Cup match is scheduled to be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium located in the Motera area of Ahmedabad on October 14.
