India Open: Priyanshu Rajawat Progresses at Lakshya Sen's Cost
At the end of the all-Indian opening-round clash, the scoreline pointed 16-21, 21-16, 21-13 in favour of Rajawat, who will go on to take on another Indian, the veteran HS Prannoy in his second-round fixture tomorrow.

Indian badminton sensation Priyanshu Rajawat showcased why he is so highly rated in the sporting community as he rallied past Lakshya Sen in the opening round of the India Open on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old lost the opening set of the game against the fledgling Lakshya, who is just a year older than Rajawat, but fought back valiantly to take the second and third sets to advance.

At the end of the all-Indian opening-round clash, the scoreline pointed 16-21, 21-16, 21-13 in favour of Rajawat, who will go on to take on another Indian, the veteran HS Prannoy in his second-round fixture tomorrow.

Lakshya was off to a positive start in the fixture as he took the opening set of the highly-rated tie as he romped to a 21-16 win. However, Rajawat demonstrated that he wouldn’t be a push over and came back strong in the second set to take a 21-16 win to level things up.

The second set win gave the 21-year-old the momentum to go ahead and seize the game in the decider, which he duly did with a 21-13 win in the final set to show Lakshya the exit door early in the tournament.

Prannoy made it through the opening round of the tournament as he brushed aside a challenge from Chou Tien-Chen of Taipei in straight sets to progress comfortably.

The 31-year-old Indian stalwart registered a 21-6, 21-19 result against his opponent on Tuesday and will look to be at his best against the rising compatriot, Rajawat, on Wednesday.

Prannoy hardly broke a sweat in the opening game of his fixture against his opponent in the opening round of the Super 750 event as he coasted to a lead with a statement performance in the first set, before closing out the game in the second set itself. But Chen put up more of a fight in the second time of asking as he racked in 19 points to his name, but it was ultimately futile as Prannoy picked up a 21-19 win to seal the deal.
