Apple iPhone 15 series can achieve faster 5G speeds than the iPhone 14 series models from last year across various countries worldwide, including India, according to an Ookla insights report.
As per the findings, the new iPhone 15 models, which debuted in September earlier this year, have reportedly been getting faster 5G speeds compared to their counterparts from last year. In fact, three out of four new iPhone 15 models, including the iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15, and iPhone 15 Pro, reportedly achieved median 5G download speeds faster than their iPhone 14 counterparts during an observation period between September 22 and October 20, 2023, in India. Notably, the iPhone 15 Pro Max lagged behind the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
“Speedtest Intelligence showed that the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Plus had better speeds than their respective prior models. There was no statistical winner for the iPhone Pro Max in India during this period,” Ookla said.
Now, based on these findings, Ookla suggests that Indian iPhone users may consider upgrading to the new models for improved 5G internet speed performance. But 5G is just one aspect of the overall experience of the new devices, and while the speed upgrades are certainly a plus, it shouldn’t be the only reason prompting you to upgrade.
With that said, it is certainly surprising to see the vanilla iPhones 15 outpacing the iPhone 15 Pro models, despite having an older A16 Bionic chipset compared to the A17 Pro of the Pro series. However, it must be noted that findings can differ based on device data across markets due to multiple variables, as per Ookla, including “5G investments by governments and mobile operators, different 5G spectrum allocations, and mobile 5G plans.”
