The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) declared the final result of the Combined Geo-Scientist exam 2023 on January 12. The candidates who appeared for the test can check their results at upsc.gov.in. As per the official press release, the “Marks of the candidates shall be made available on the website within fifteen days from the date of publication of the result.” The selectors recommended a list of 258 candidates. These candidates are selected for appointments in central government-run organisations like the Geological Survey of India (GSI) and the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB).

The final selection was made based on the scores at the end of a three-step process. The first was the stage-I (preliminary) exam held on February 19, 2023, the second step was the stage-2 (main) exam held on June 24 and June 25, 2023 and the personality test (interview round) held in November and December 2023.

The result of 19 recommended candidates is currently marked as provisional. The UPSC mentioned that their appointment will be confirmed after the document verification is done. The press notice further said, “The provisionality of these candidates will remain valid only for a period of three months from the date of declaration of Final result. In case the candidate fails to submit the requisite documents as required by the Commission within this period, their candidature will be cancelled and no further correspondence will be entertained in this regard.”

Out of 258 recommended candidates, 190 candidates are listed under the post of “Geologist Group A”, 26 are listed for “Scientist ‘B’ (Hydrogeology) Group ‘A’”, 22 are listed for the post of “Geophysicist Group ‘A’/ Scientist ‘B’ (Geophysics) Group ‘A’”, and finally the remaining 20 are listed for the post of Chemist Group ‘A’ / Scientist ‘B’ (Chemical) Group ‘A’.

A few seats for the Combined Geo-Scientist exam are currently kept vacant due to the non-availability of The Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) candidates. The person with a disability is considered to have a benchmark disability if she or he has at least 40 per cent disability mentioned in the Unique Disability ID (UDID) card issued by the competent authority. These disabilities range from blindness, hearing impairment, cerebral palsy, and more.
