'I See Myself Performing Well This Season': Punjab Kings Skipper Shikhar Dhawan Remains Confident Ahead of IPL 2024
Speaking at News18 Chaupal, Shikhar Dhawan talked about his preparations for the upcoming IPL 2024 season and his role as the captain of the side.

The skipper of the Punjab Kings, Shikhar Dhawan remains focused on leading the franchise to their maiden IPL trophy. Ahead of the upcoming season, the skipper had a chat with News18 India’s event called ‘Chaupaal.’

The skipper has been part of the Punjab Kings franchise since 2022 where he was bought for 8.25 crores in the IPL auctions. Since then he has been one of their best-performing players despite not being a contender for the top-four spots in the IPL.

Dhawan remains unfazed by the history of the franchise and has been performing consistently. He scored 460 runs in the 2022 edition where the side finished sixth in the table and then scored 373 runs in the 2023 edition where the side finished eighth.

The opening batter talked about his preparations ahead of the 2024 edition of the tournament. He said," The preparations for the IPL are going well. Now I am focussing on my fitness, skill and visualisation as well."

The opener remains confident in his abilities and also sees himself doing well in the coming season. He said," I see myself performing well out there this season."

As the leader of the side, Dhawan remains intent on helping the side get their first trophy but also aims to create a good atmosphere for the players as well. He added," The focus is to help Punjab Kings get the trophy and follow a strong process and preparation along the way. And to enjoy the journey."

Dhawan emphasised the importance of enjoying the journey and creating a nurturing environment within the side which has many young players who could feature for the Indian side in the future. He mentioned, “The focus is to make sure that I go from point A to point B with just as much enjoyment. Also to create an amazing environment where all the boys are very happy being themselves and performing their best by making a nurturing environment. As a leader that will be my role."

The Punjab Kings have bolstered their squad with some international players namely, the South African opening batter, Rilee Rossouw, the English pacer, Chris Woakes and the Indian death-bowling specialist, Harshal Patel as they aim to turn their fortunes around once again with Shikhar Dhawan leading the side.
